Just 1% Better
Each and every day we have choices to make. These choices that we are making lead to habits we repeat over time. Some of these habits have great benefits while other habits have consequences or tradeoffs. In a lot of cases we know when we are partaking in bad habits. Yet it’s hard to change that habit (it's not just you, it's hard for all of us). Some of the struggles people have with habits is we often take on more than we can handle (the go getter mindset is great, but consistency goes a lot farther than intention when trying to accomplish something), or we don’t realize how often we partake in the poor habit (in our heads it's just that one time, but then it turns into once a week or multiple times a week).
I highly recommend the book:
All our choices add up over time, in a lot of cases we don’t see the benefits or consequences of our choices in the moment but instead at a later time. An example is you can go do a workout and you're not going to see those composition changes in the mirror right away, but instead with consistent workouts over time your body starts to change. Another example is that you can have a super nutrient healthy dinner one day and not see the scale move, but with planning and continuous healthy meals you can start to see the weight changes you were seeking. Habits have a way of compounding and adding up.
So how do we go about changing those habits to obtain the benefits and success we want to reach? We break down the goals into small obtainable actions/habits. If we focus on trying to be just 1% better each day we can see improvement.
The habits we set are like a roadmap leading us to our end destination, or in this case that goal you set. In a lot of cases we know our end destination but don’t know how to get there. That’s where I want to help you! I do nutrition/lifestyle coaching on top of being a personal trainer. One of the tools I use to help people is through Procoach programming. This coaching program is a tailored program specifically for you to create healthy habits. We focus on habits that can be sustainable for a healthy lifestyle and include things such as nutrition, sleep, stress, and fitness. You have daily access to these habits and access to 1-1 coaching, accountability, and resources to help with those habits. If this is something you are interested in, reach out to me and we can set up a complementary intro into building your roadmap.
If coaching isn’t something you're looking for right now here are a few simple tips I have to work on those habits:
Get an accountability partner, power in numbers
Acknowledge your barriers, that way you can plan ahead
Schedule time for your habits, sometimes all it takes is 5 minutes.
Remember something is always better than nothing
Track it, write it down, have a visual to see the trends
